DEAD

I just read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. It killed me. Hence the title of this, my first post. For those of us who learn best visually, this book is brilliant. You live the story with the protagonist, acutely feeling what he feels and seeing what he sees. This book is a second life to me. It killed me, and it taught me how to live.

  1. Hi there,
I'm a dear friend of Janine Doot. I just wanted to stop by and see what books you had reviewed. I actually read EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE with my book club three years ago. It was well written, and, dear and sweet. But for me, I just felt like the reader needed more historification prior to reading about 9/11. September 11th, really wasn't that long ago, and it was terribly traumatizing. It just hurts reopening old wounds, right when they are closing. In my opinion, I think I would have enjoyed the book much more in fifteen years. Do you understand what I mean?

A great historical, adolescent book I would like to suggest to you is called, SADAKO AND THE THOUSAND PAPER CRANES. I read that earlier this year by the request of my little sister. {It's now required text in third grade.} At any rate, it's a beautiful story about a young girl growing up in the shadows and ash after WWII in Japan. It's a quick read, and I think you would like to add it to your personal library.

Do stop by and say hello!
